1. During my European trip I also visited Spain, still under the rule of the hideous dictator Francisco Franco. It turned out that life under the fascist brute was fairly free, for the most part — apparently as free as in Britain, then under the pathetic Tory government of Edward Heath. And in at least one respect they were far ahead of the good old U.S.A: I was amazed to see that the cops saluted anyone who approached them!
